Al Wiedmann Jr. is a former engineer and registered patent attorney. Al’s patent efforts with Santangelo Law focus on electrical, mechanical and chemical technologies.
Prior to joining Santangelo Law in 2001, Al worked as an engineer in both the private and public sectors, as a law clerk for a civil litigation firm in Baltimore, Maryland, and as a judicial clerk for the Oregon State Courts in Multnomah County, Oregon. He is a member of both the Colorado and Oregon State Bars.
“What I find most rewarding as a patent attorney is working with clients to help them come up with cost-effective ways to meet their intellectual property needs,” says Al. “Devising a creative solution for a client with a complex IP issue can be a real challenge – and a surprising amount of fun. And getting a valuable patent can be a fight, but it always seems to be worth it.”
Al regularly advises clients relative to domestic and international patent protection, and prepares patent applications, technology-related agreements, and patent infringement and validity opinions. He also prepares and prosecutes trademark and copyright registration applications.
Representative works that a client has permitted to be listed include "Plant Growing System to Maximize Transplant Yield" US 6,779,300 B2
In his spare time, Al enjoys guitar, working on his house and climbing. He has biked across the United States, thru-hiked the Appalachian Trial, and hopes to one day free climb Yosemite’s Astroman (although he says it might take him two).
